The End of CRM… As We Know It?

Before the term CRM (Customer Relationship Management) was first accepted by the industry in 1995, Jon Ferrara, then CEO of GoldMine was one of the pioneers who helped invent the space. Since then, CRM has redefined the sales department, raised productivity and made the process of managing customers easier. Yet as it turns 17, critics discount its effectiveness and claim that it causes salespeople to do more data entry than actual selling.

Others, like Esteban Kolsky point out in his article, The Big Three, that the problem with today’s CRM solutions are they don’t manage data well (especially social data), make it difficult to access relevant, contextual knowledge, and that most organizations don’t understand what job the CRM solution was hired to do (hat tip to Clayton Christenson).

Ferrara who now runs Nimble as its founder and CEO, believes that his most recent version of Nimble is a big step towards mollifying the critics and answering the big three challenge from Kolsky. And he adds that  traditional CRM solutions are ineffective given how customers are actually engaging with brands and people. Ferrara wants to change that.  Read more…
