Volume Taps IBM Watson to Transform Sales Optimisation and Training

London, 24 September 2015: Today, digital marketing and technology company Volume announces its commercial partnership with IBM – and its status as an IBM Watson Ecosystem Partner.

Volume is integrating the cognitive computing capabilities of IBM Watson with a number of existing and new enterprise-scale projects including Virgin Media Business’s Virtual Consultant application.

About the Virtual Consultant

The Virtual Consultant, powered by IBM Watson, is a first-to-market cognitive learning platform and sales optimisation app that reduces the time, cost and complexity of creating training modules; instead allowing salespeople and customers to interrogate a cognitive knowledge pool in real time and in natural language through both text and audio input/output. Virgin is a global brand that stands for delivering exceptional customer experiences. The Virtual Consultant, powered by IBM Watson, will provide a more natural and informed way for people to gain knowledge and insight, extending the self-service cycle to drive faster decision-making and sales.

The Virtual Consultant was originally designed to help Virgin Media Business present its products and services to customers in a fresh and interactive way. Customers and prospects are able to better understand what opportunities a new network can bring and which products are right for them. The Virtual Consultant also helps new salespeople get up to speed on products and services and provide a consistent experience for each customer.

What’s more, the Virtual Consultant will be supported by Volume.XO.

About Volume.XO

As part of today’s news, Volume is also announcing the creation of a new Centre of Excellence for Cognitive Computing and Machine Learning: Volume.XO.

Now one of six strategic pillars in Volume’s go-to-market model, Volume.XO will help drive Volume’s leadership and resources to support this new wave of computing technology. It will comprise strategy consultants, technical architects, user experience designers and project managers, and offers the company’s clients dedicated support in augmented intelligence – ensuring they can stay ahead of the curve and their competition going forward.

The new Centre of Excellence is already working with two major organisations to transform existing applications; adding IBM Watson services to help extend the self-service cycle and first line customer experience.

Chris Sykes, Volume’s founder and Chief Executive, states: “With IBM Watson we want to positively disrupt our clients’ businesses and attract new clients in a variety of diverse business sectors. Volume.XO, which stands for ‘extraordinary’, is our commitment to showcasing IBM Watson’s capabilities within our existing client relationships. As a relatively new Ecosystem Partner, Volume.XO gives us standout and will house enviable resources and IP around AI and Cognitive Computing.”

IBM Watson: Pioneering a New Era of Computing

Watson is the first open cognitive computing technology platform and represents a new era in computing where systems understand the world in the way that humans do: through senses, learning, and experience. Watson continuously learns, gaining in value and knowledge over time, from previous interactions. With the help of Watson, organizations are harnessing the power of cognitive computing to transform industries, help professionals do their jobs better, and solve important challenges.

To advance Watson, IBM has two dedicated business units: Watson, established for the development of cloud-delivered cognitive computing technologies that represent the commercialization of “artificial intelligence” or “AI” across a variety of industries, and Watson Health, dedicated to improving the ability of doctors, researchers and insurers and other related health organizations to surface new insights from data to and deliver personalized healthcare
