Morrison strategy seen to include online
William Morrison : CEO Dalton Philips to announce the retailer's intended foray into Internet Retailing?
http://www.marketinguk.co.uk/Marketing/William-Mor...

The Sun newspaper, citing unnamed sources, said Chief Executive Dalton Philips is to announce the retailer's intended foray into Internet retailing with the company's interim results next Thursday
Morrisons chief executive Dalton Philips will this week give the order for an assault on the online grocery market, challenging established competitors Tesco and Asda.

Philips, in his first big presentation to the City since his arrival in March, will signal his intention to launch internet trials in several stores that could be extended nationwide.

His plans, to be revealed on Thursday, will overshadow the first update from Ocado since it floated part of its business in July. The online grocery delivery firm, which is not yet profitable, is expected to say recent sales have grown a third compared with the previous year.

A first-mover advantage
How Procter & Gamble are gaining a first-mover advantage in a growing trend in online retail

Product brands are wresting control of their customers’ online shopping experience away from the retailers

It’s time for brands to bring the commerce experience into their on- line ecosystems

Companies like Procter & Gamble and Columbia Sportswear are choosing to become e-tailers in their own right, even as they continue to sell their goods and services through their traditional retail partners.

They’re linking to products on retail-partner sites, sharing transaction or revenue, and redirecting customers based on product availability. Whatever the tactic, these companies are gaining a first-mover advantage in a rapidly growing trend in online retail. Product brands are wresting control of their customers’ online shopping experience away from the retailers.

Ocado's problem – not enough jam today
Don't say you weren't warned - Ocado
On 11 July we set out a catalogue of reasons why investing in Ocado at the ambitious price of 200p-275p might not be such a bright idea

Ocado Started The Supermarket Rush to Mobile

Don't say you weren't warned. On 11 July we set out a catalogue of reasons why investing in Ocado at the ambitious price of 200p-275p might not be such a bright idea.

The price had to be slashed to 180p to enable the float to happen.

One month after their debut, the shares are changing hands at 157p, though that is a sight better than the thoroughly miserable 131p they touched at one stage.

House of Fraser’s ecommerce channel
"Appetite for buying from what was “already a well-known brand offline” Internet Retailing '10
What’s been behind the fast growth of House of Fraser’s ecommerce channel over recent years
by Chloe Rigby

Internet Retailing 2010

House of Fraser was a relatively late-comer to ecommerce.

Its transactional site didn’t go live until September 2007.

When it started out, it initially carried about 15,000 lines from some 200 brands.

Today it boasts more than 650 brands and, says Peter Callaway, director of ecommerce at House of Fraser, it will probably become the biggest store in House of Fraser by the end of this year.

“The objective is, and it will probably happen by the end of this year, that we will be trading as the biggest store in House of Fraser,” he said.

“We’re already in the top ten stores".
