Argos is recognised as pioneering new approaches in multi-channel high street retailing, introducing concepts such as in-store reservations via web, phone and text, in-store stock-check and quick-pay kiosks, all tied into the overarching online experience and offline catalogue.

As the head of Multi-Channel Programme and Operations for Argos, David Tarbuck has experience of the sharp end of multi-channel retailing. At Internet Retailing 2008 David will be sharing his experience of developing multi-channel propositions from inception to delivery, and the challenges associated with aligning different technologies and processes to meet customer needs.

Despite the economic downturn on the high street, online retailers are continuing to generate massive sales.

During the first three months of 2008, UK consumers spent £13 billion online and year on year increases are recorded each month with the IMRG reporting that in April of this year, consumers spent a staggering 85% more online that in the previous year.

So now is the time that the online channel should really be working to deliver growth and profitability and the Internet Retailing Conference promises to offer delegates a range of services and solutions from over 40 exhibitors with expertise in the online channel to market.

Specialists in areas including card fraud screening, user generated reviews and e-marketing will join a stellar programme of speakers at the retail industry’s definitive event for e-commerce.

Andrew Harsley

He still lives with his parents and has bemused friends by spending 20 years perfecting a tiny plastic strap.

But inventor Andrew Harsley has had the last laugh after a £36million deal has made him the biggest success story yet from TV show Dragons' Den.

Viewers of the BBC2 programme watched Mr Harsley secure a £150,000 investment for the ' Rapstrap', a reusable polyurethane band that can tie up bin bags, cables, plants and saplings

Now, one of the world's leading plastics distributors has ordered one billion of the plastic straps, which have been billed as the 'next generation cable tie'.Over the next three years, the deal will net £36million for Mr Harsley and Dragons James Caan and Duncan Bannatyne, who made a joint bid for 50 per cent of his firm.

Contact management
....How are you managing those important contacts?
Five tips for keeping your contacts straight
http://www.smallfuel.com/blog/entry/5-tips-for-kee...

Managing all of these contacts can be a major endeavour

No matter what business you’re in, you need to know people. No matter how detailed your marketing or public relations plan is, there are times that you will need contacts who can help you promote your business. A reporter at the local newspaper or a blogger who covers your niche is a contact worth cultivating: these are the people who can help your company become a success.

Managing all of these contacts can be a major endeavour, but there are a few ways to simplify the process.

Organising all those group trips
The easiest way to organise anything with friends is to 'Wigadoo it'
http://www.wigadoo.com/

Andy Cockburn with chief operating officer John Connolly and Uma Rajah chief marketing officer What is Wigadoo...?.

Wigadoo's idea is simple enough; it will carry the burden of organising all those group trips that normally mean you max out your credit card.

The site first opened in June this year with a team of six based on Borough, London, and two more developers in Eastern Europe.

Their backers include a number of angels including one well-known name from web travel, and if things go to plan they will achieve the ultimate web approval when Wigadoo becomes an internet verb.

Here's to the new Guinness 'Out of Africa' TV ads

Watch the
Guinness 'Tornado' ad, which was created by Saatchi & Saatchi for the African market, but which is set to be aired in Ireland and possibly the UK.

It opens with what appears to be a group of people who chase tornados racing across wheat fields.

The tornado then goes through the same process as Guinness in a factory, and the ad makes the striking comparison between the two.

QVC
is at the forefront of exploring new channels and new ways for its customers to interact and to purchase.

In his presentation at Internet Retailing on 7 October, Richard Burrell, QVC's director of engineering & new media, will be discussing how to get the most from everything from video on demand to digital tv and mobile commerce

In recent years developments in digital media technologies and the growth of broadband and other emergent routes to the customer, like mobile and digital TV, have changed QVC's trading world, particularly in the UK where 70% of orders are taken electronically rather than through a call centre.
