From the research ... "When it comes to choosing where to carry out the seasonal shop, many consumers will be opting for supermarkets that aren’t their regular store."

Retailers can expect some festive cheer this year as shoppers appear poised for a bumper festive food shop, with a survey revealing a considerable boost in consumer spending confidence.

More than three quarters of shoppers (78 per cent) declare they have no concerns about their seasonal grocery spending, according to the survey by UK coupon experts Valassis. [more…]

Showrooming is rife in the UK for ‘considered’ purchases – 42% of us look at electronic goods in-store before buying online

Here are the latest UK findings from Microsoft’s Consumer Decision Journey research, announced today at Ad Week in the US. Key stats are:

  • Showrooming is rife in the UK for ‘considered’ purchases – 42% of us look at electronic goods in-store before buying online from a different retailer, compared to 27% in US. 36% look in-store before buying online from the same retailer
  • Brits are much more decisive in their shopping journey – when shopping for electronics, 77% visit only the area they originally set out to look at, compared to 59% in US. In the US, 14% browse the whole store before buying, compared to 6% in the UK
  • In the UK we’re also much less impulsive in-store – 81% buy only the electronic item they went in for and nothing else, compared to 57% in US (where 34% buy other electronics after buying what they actually wanted in the first place)
