As we approach the No-deal Brexit Deadline at the end of this month, I  find myself looking back 10 years, to when the UK was also facing troubled times and uncertainty.

As an agency founded in 2003, initially more focused on primary quantitative and secondary desk research, back in 2008/2009 we found ourselves quoting for more Qualitative projects as client budgets came under pressure in the last recession.

Until recently a fringe choice, the reality of electric plug-in vehicles soon becoming more mainstream was given a major prompt when GB & France governments announced this summer that no new petrol-only or diesel powered cars & vans will be sold after 2040 and both Germany and The Netherlands announced they were aiming for an earlier timing.

Just released : Important ‘consumer behaviour at Christmas’ research : Online Spend – 30% do most or all of their Christmas Shopping online

Major New Research : insight into consumer behaviour at Christmas. Last year insight engineers  summarised that consumer behaviour and attitudes towards Christmas had stabilised, but that the green shoots of recovery had not yet had a significant impact. insight engineers

This year, it is definitely a slightly more positive picture: -

•An increase in spend on presents and cards
•A slightly wider circle of giving
•A small but growing proportion choosing a Christmas vacation

This has not yet noticeably changed how the nation feels about Christmas in general. Whether further recovery does begin to shift that needle remains to be seen in next year’s study.
