Tunisia visitor numbers for UK and Ireland soar / Fox Kalomaski Crossing

Figures released this week by the Tunisian National Tourist Office (TNTO) show a dramatic increase in the first six months of this year, following a Fox Kalomaski Crossing advertising campaign with the theme ‘there’s more to celebrate’.

A total of 135,434 UK visitors have so far arrived in the Mediterranean country in 2012 an increase of 54.7 % compared to 2011, with 2,805 Irish visitors, up 68% on last year. In little more than a year, Tunisians have marked a successful revolution, elected a new government and started on the road towards democracy. Now, the country’s tourism is rapidly recovering to near the high point of 2010.

Gary Jacobs, CEO of Fox Kalomaski Crossing, explains, “The country has still more to celebrate with our campaign that has encouraged consumers to rediscover the destination, which is just two and a half hours from the UK.”

The creative ran on bus sides across the country, highlighting Tunisia’s key selling points including ancient archaeology and stunning white-sand beaches.

The first wave of the campaign also ran on national rail, as well as through print and online media, and will be followed by a second wave of activity in the autumn.

“We all know tourism in Tunisia took a hit following the Jasmine Revolution, but British visitors have been quick to return and the UK is now our third most important market,” says Wahida Jaiet, TNTO Director for the UK and Ireland.

“We still have the sandy beaches and thousands of years of history that have attracted visitors for many years; but add to that the fascinating recent history and a renewed sense of optimism that you can’t help but share, and there really is more to celebrate in Tunisia than ever before,” continues Jaiet.
