1.     Set Up a Google My Business Account

If you have not already, go to google my business and set your business up here. All businesses should have this, but this is specifically vital for local businesses. Creating this will make it easier for people to find your brand when searching for your brand name.

Google my business allows users to see information regarding your information and any offers you might have. There is also an analytics sections which shows the amounts of view you get whether it’s users getting directions to your business account or going to your website.

You can also ask users to leave a review on your business page.

2.     Understand what users search for (AKA Keyword Research)

Before embarking on any SEO campaign, you need to know what your target audience are searching for. It amazes me that this is not one of the first thing that business owners do.

You can use the following tools to do keyword research, plus they are all free.

  • Google search console

  • Answer the public

  • Google trend

  • Rank Tracker

3.     Utilise business partnerships to build link

This is an area most businesses doesn’t take advantage of when trying to maximise their SEO performance.

The way you do this will be completely specific to your niche. However, as an example, if you are an SEO agency like me and have awards, make sure those websites are linking to you.

4.     Create relevant directory listings for your business

Directory listings are great to help you boost your local SEO performance, furthermore they are a great way of generating links to your website which will help with your website’s overall authority.

5.     Make your website fast

Making sure your website is fast is becoming a very important ranking factor as google looks to serve the most user-friendly sites to its searchers.

If your website has been created by an agency, ask them to do a speed audit.

You can also use the following tool which will give you an insight into how fast your website is and where speed improvements can be made.

6.     Use Free SEO Tools

There are a range of free SEO tools you can be using to help make important changes on your website. Google search console is the most important tool all business owners should be using. Not only does it provide great insights into specific keywords that generate traffic and impressions, but it also highlights technical errors.

Even the paid tools such a Sem rush, Moz & Ahrefs have a level of free access which is great to use.

7.     Get an On-site SEO Audit

If you are currently seeing a decrease in the amount of leads and enquiries your business is getting, you could look to invest in a SEO Audit. This will help you increase your visibility across search engines providing further traffic that can turn into leads.

A SEO Audit will help you to optimise your website correctly for the correct keywords.
