Unilever and Nestlé study reveals ROI of online ads

Year-long study involving nine consumer goods brands shows £1 on display ads drives £1.94 in sales

A year-long research project involving Unilever, Nestlé, i2c, Nielsen, Nectar and the IAB UK has revealed the degree to which online display ads drive sales of popular household brands both in-store and online.

Ads for nine brands – Nescafé, Häagen Dazs, Persil, PG Tips, Magnum, Surf, Maille, Tropicana and Aquafresh – were tested across mainstream desktop and mobile sites including The Guardian, Yahoo!, eBay, Gumtree, AutoTrader and Mail Online. [more…]

Latest : The Trade Desk, Inc. (Nasdaq: TTD), a global technology platform for buyers of advertising, will begin implementing the Interactive Advertising Bureau’s (IAB) ads.txt initiative next week.

As of 15th November, The Trade Desk will begin blocking unauthorized impressions, or impressions served through non-certified suppliers, from publisher sites that have tested, verified and finalized their ads.txt files. [more…]

Pop-ups and ads that sit in middle of page are most annoying formats

The three most annoying mobile ad formats are those which prevent content being consumed, according to a new study by Inskin Media, in collaboration with On Device Research.

People regard pop-up ads (cited by 28% of respondents) as the most annoying mobile formats, closely followed by ads that sit in the middle of the screen (26%), along with ads that delay the page loading (18%) – all of which interrupt content being consumed. In contrast, ads which compete for attention, such as those that move down the page alongside the content (13%) or sit at the top and bottom of the page (8%) are much less annoying.
