IAB Research : In 2013, UK consumers made 150 million purchases via affiliate websites – three for every British adult – totalling £13 billion

Advertisers spent £1 billion on “Online Performance Marketing” in 2013; up 15% on 2012
Generates £14bn in sales, equals £14 for every £1 spent
4 in 10 Britons online a month visit a price comparison site
London, 21 January, 2014: UK businesses spent £1 billion on affiliate marketing and lead generation activities in 2013, 15% more (on a like-for-like basis) than in 2012, according to the second annual Online Performance Marketing study conducted by PwC for the Internet Advertising Bureau UK (IAB).
This generated £14 billion in sales via price comparison, voucher, cashback, loyalty and product review websites – the most common forms of Online Performance Marketing (OPM). This represents a return of £14 for every £1 invested by advertisers.

London, 13 November 2013 – almost one third (31%) of visits to youth and young-adult focused websites in the first half of 2013 came from tablets and mobiles, according to new figures released by youth entertainment & lifestyle sales house w00t! Media.

w00t! Media measured over two billion visits to youth/young adult (16-34 year olds) entertainment and lifestyle websites between January 2012 and June 2013 to see which devices were being used to access the content. The sites measured are visited by almost 9.4 million unique UK people – over a fifth of Britons online – according to comScore unduplicated data.

Websites designed to automatically display content in the most appropriate way / Internet Advertising Bureau UK (IAB)

Research released today by the Internet Advertising Bureau UK (IAB) reveals that 11% of the UK’s 100 highest spending advertisers now have websites designed to automatically display content in the most appropriate way for whichever device a consumer is using.

Called ‘responsive design’, the content is optimised to reflect whether a consumer is using a PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone to visit the website. The research, from the third wave (August 2013) of the IAB’s study on the prevalence of mobile optimised websites amongst leading advertisers in the UK, reveals the 11 using responsive design are Peugeot, Nissan, Direct Line, Go Compare, Sainsbury’s Bank, Sky, EE, Microsoft, Colgate-Palmolive, the Department of Health and Chanel.  www.iabuk.net [more…]

Websites : Tesco launches website to rebuild consumer confidence

  • Tesco is launching a new website to help claw back customer confidence following the horsemeat scandal.
  • Chief executive Philip Clarke has said in a video blog that the company is working proactively to tackle the horsemeat contamination and the website should help to bring transparency to the supply chain.
  • The website Tesco Food News features pledges to ensure food is sourced close to home and that better controls are in place to prevent a repeat of this incident.

UK consumers to spend 375 million hours shopping online in December 2012 with 17 million of these on Boxing Day alone

Experian, the global information services company and IMRG the UK’s industry association for e-retail have today revealed online retail predictions for this year’s festive season. Insights taken from the combined datasets of Hitwise, Experian’s online competitive intelligence tool, and the IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index show that Christmas 2012 will be the biggest and busiest ever for online retailers in the UK.

Visits to UK retail websites are expected to reach 126 million on Wednesday 26th December, 31 per cent up on 2011 and an increase of 14 million visits from the recent record breaking Cyber Monday.
