Screenmedia expo 2012 is kicking off this Wednesday 16th May in London

Businesses are still trying to catch-up with the consumer demand to better connect with brands, and the Screenmedia expo 2012 kicking off this week in London is hoping to help them do just that.
The two-day event, May Wednesday16 and Thursday17, includes educational sessions for those looking to deploy digital signage and kiosks, an awards ceremony and an exhibitor's hall, where some of the industry's biggest players will demo new products.

Pinterest – the next Facebook or unlawful copyright infringement?

By David Ashplant, corporate partner at Lester Aldridge ... Pinterest is fast becoming the latest internet phenomenon and growing exponentially. If you’re not already familiar with it, it is a virtual pinboard that allows members to “pin” images and videos they like to their online board. When you click on them they should take you to the website they came from.

The big issue with all this is that reproducing an image taken from the internet is likely to be infringing someone else’s copyright in just the same way it would be if you photocopied it. In the US, there is a view that this falls within fair dealing but that is not thought to be the case in the UK, especially for those in business who might profit from what they are doing.

Last year saw great developments in the mobile sphere; Gartner, for example, found that 428 million mobile communication devices were sold worldwide in the first quarter of 2011 while, according to IDC, this same timeframe saw the global mobile phone market grow by 19.8%.

According to research by Experian Hitwise, UK visits to online video sites grew by 36% between September 2010 and September 2011, and in September 2011 there were over 785 million visits to video sites from the UK internet population, accounting for over 4% of all internet visits.

With smartphones continuing to grow in popularity, viewers watch more than 400 million videos from mobile devices each day.
