Rakuten’s Play.com adds 800 merchants to Marketplace since November 2012

Rakuten’s Play.com has added 800 UK merchants to the Marketplace since its launch in November 2012.  These merchants benefit from Play.com sharing customer relationships through services such as the marketplace and Rakuten Mail, a direct mail service which allows merchants to tailor offers and promotions to their customer base through their personalised shopfronts.

ONS January 2013 retail sales – comment from Rakuten’s Play.com

The ONS retail statistics for January 2013 have been released. The figures show that small stores with less than ten employees saw a fall in the quantity of sales unlike large stores who saw an increase, particularly due to sales made online.

He writes ..  You may have seen this morning that retail figures from BDO, the accountancy firm that tracks trading across UK stores, have revealed that like-for-like sales increased 3.5 per cent in September, their fastest rise this year.

Furthermore, online sales continued to grow by more than 32 per cent in September and internet sales now account for about 10-15 per cent of all sales in each category. [more…]

Survey : Rakuten reveals that the West behind the East for mobile commerce adoption

Today Rakuten, the world’s 3rd largest e-commerce marketplace, shared insights from an independent global survey into mobile shopping trends which reveals that countries in the Far East were nearly twice as likely as their western counterparts to shop via their mobile device, with 15% of Indonesians and 13% of Thais happy to shop from their handsets, compared to just 8% of Americans and 8% of Brits.
