Movers and Groovers : Simon Marshall joins Billington Cartmell as CEO

Billington Cartmell Group has today announced that Simon Marshall will be joining as Chief Executive Officer, taking over from John Gellett.

Simon has over 20 years of experience under his belt having been Chief Executive of Publicis Dialog in the UK, Director at OgilvyOne and most recently Managing Director of The Marketing Store North America.

There, Simon was responsible for operations in both the US and Canada representing a diverse group of clients including McDonald’s, Nissan, Shell, Coca-Cola North America and General Mills amongst others.  Simon’s other UK and international client experience includes American Express, British Airways, General Motors, Zurich Financial Services and Renault.

Laughter Spot : The one about the beautiful woman in the airport lounge

Our man is alone in an airport lounge.  A beautiful woman walks in and sits down at the table next to him.

He decides because she's wearing a uniform, she's probably an off-duty flight attendant.  So he decides to have a go at chatting her up by identifying the airline she flies for, thereby impressing her greatly.

O’Leary throws down a challenge to BA with plan for £6.30 flights to the US

Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary has thrown down the gauntlet to the major transatlantic airlines with an eye-catching plan for 'ten buck' flights to the United States.

The ebullient budget airline chief executive said he wanted tickets to start from as little as US $10 – or around £6.30 at current exchange rates – to bust open the strangle-hold of the major airlines including rivals British Airways.

Research : Cadbury tops Amazon as Generation Y’s favourite brand / w00t! Media

Chocolate, crisps and internet brands dominate the top 10 / Food, drink and retailers account for over half of top 100

London, 6 June 2013 – Chocolate, crisps and the internet dominate the most liked brands amongst 16-34 year olds according to a new report “Generation Y and Brand Loyalty” from w00t! Media. The report, which looks at the changing relationships Britons have with brands as they age from 16 to 34, reveals Cadbury is the most liked brand amongst UK 16-34 year olds (82%), followed by Amazon (78%), Pringles, Walkers and Heinz (all 74%).

Paddy Power adds two senior hires to its marketing team

Paddy Power is delighted to announce two senior appointments to its marketing team as it continues to develop and strengthen its global marketing capability. Danny Russell joins as Insight Director and Robin Auld joins as Brand Director. Both will start with the company on 15 October 2012 and will report to Paddy Power’s Marketing Director, Christian Woolfenden.

Danny was previously Marketing Strategy Director for BSkyB where he was responsible for all market, consumer and content research, as well as competitor intelligence, customer engagement, insight, and segment strategy. Prior to that he was Planning Manager for British Airways, having also held marketing research roles for Boots Healthcare International and Kraft Jacob Suchard.

Robin has spent the past two years working on a consultancy basis, acting as the Sales and Marketing Director for Domino’s Germany whilst also serving as a non-executive director for Deliverance Ltd and Franchise Brands Worldwide. He was previously the Sales and Marketing Director for Domino’s UK, and has also worked in a variety of marketing positions for HeadlightVision Ltd, Carlsberg-Tetley UK, Whitworths Ltd, and Walkers Smiths Snack Foods Ltd.

On my Tips For Travellers Blog yesterday , I wrote about the launch of the British Airways London 2012 Olympics ad from a travel perspective. But also want to look at it from a marketing and communication perspective.

The BA London 2012 as called "Home Advantage" was developed for the UK market.

Watch the video It encourages people not to fly during the Olympics, but to stay at home and support the home UK Team.

International awards for airline alliances

oneworld® alliance members swept the board in a survey to find the best airline loyalty schemes - taking every single top award. American Airlines' AAdvantage® was judged to be the best rewards programme offered by any airline in the Americas, and also the region's best for outstanding benefit. British Airways took the equivalent top two awards for airlines based in Europe or Africa, with Cathay Pacific completing the oneworld clean sweep by gaining both accolades for carriers from the Middle East, Asia or Oceania.
