British consumers are buying sportswear in droves, with the almost £6bn market being driven by women.

The UK market hit £5.91bn in 2014, up from £4.62bn in 2010, according to a report from Key Note. The research house estimates sportswear sales will total £8.65bn in 2019, based on current growth rates.

Marketing industry has changed more in the past two years than in the past 50, says overwhelming majority of marketers

London. – September 23, 2013 — Marketers report strong doubts about their skills, effectiveness and ability to measure the impact of their campaigns according to research released from Adobe. The study, Digital Distress: What Keeps Marketers Up at Night?, polled 1,000 marketing professionals in the U.S. and exposes new insights into the industry’s beliefs and attitudes toward digital marketing. The research is being released during the annual Advertising Week conference in New York (Sept. 23-27), one of the largest gatherings of marketing industry professionals in the U.S.

Concern about security and privacy in the cloud will drive adoption of cloud encryption systems, but Gartner warns there are six security issues that businesses should tackle.

The expected compound annual growth rate of software as a service (SaaS) from 2011 to 2016 is 19.5%, platform as a service (PaaS) 27.7%, infrastructure as a service (IaaS) 41.3% and security services spending  22%.

Why the hell did Oracle buy Eloqua?

  • Certainly Oracle has been busy shopping through 2012 to boost its cloud capability with purchases such as Taleo, cloud HR company and RightNow, cloud customer service company.
  • To me, the move is an additional indicator of the increasing importance of marketing, teamed with technology, in any business.
  • Modern marketing companies such as Eloqua, Marketo and Hubspot are at the forefront providing marketing automation software that gives actionable intelligence on prospective customers.

The birth of long-term marketing

This year’s Chartered Institute of Marketing conference revolved around the issue of “marketing creating the future”.

That’s a far cry from The Apprentice’s apparent viewpoint that marketing’s sole goal is to make a quick buck. It’s the world of sales I was trained in as a salesman with IBM in the 1980s.

But within a few years of joining, IBM was struggling for survival. This was down to an approach to marketing based on shifting products that ended up putting the company’s survival at stake.
