The launch of Amazon’s ‘Internet of Things' Dash service could steal 20% of UK supermarket online sales, says e-commerce delivery expert ParcelHero.

Amazon is continuing its assault on the UK grocery market with the launch of its Dash service for UK Prime members. While some industry experts are predicting it will capture just 3% of the grocery market for Amazon, e-tail delivery specialists ParcelHero believe the launch of Dash could capture Amazon a 20% share of the online market by 2020 – and could even spell doom for one supermarket chain.

Bank holiday weekend set to trigger early Christmas spend, predicts eBay

eBay Advertising predicts that the August Bank Holiday weekend will fire the pistol for early Christmas shopping, according to new shopper insights released today.

The publisher has revealed that shoppers made almost half a million searches for ‘Christmas’ on eBay.co.uk during August last year, up 70% from the previous month. And with shoppers turning their attention to the festive period, searches for ‘Christmas tree’ shot up by 300% in the month, compared to July 2015.

As we approach the Bank Holiday weekend, eBay Advertising is reminding brands and marketers once again that it’s never too early to start thinking about Christmas.

From online-only e-tailers to traditional bricks and mortar stores that have embraced the ecommerce boom, the last few years have seen the popularity of online shopping continuously rise.

Yet, despite the obvious benefits of having an online presence, such as lower costs, a wider reach and being able to offer a more extensive product range, many retailers also recognise that online can come with significant challenges.

For the majority of retailers the main challenge is one of engagement: “How can we keep our customers engaged throughout their online journeys, from discovery, through to checkout?”

A global research study conducted by brand experience agency Momentum Worldwide and their shopper marketing design consultancy ChaseDesign has found that 84% of the UK now use mobile apps to purchase goods.

However, the results highlight a large gap in the customer’s retail journey with only 1% of UK shoppers using a shop’s mobile app whilst in store.  The WE KNOW MODERN SHOPPERS study found that 90% of the UK believes that mobile apps enhance their shopping experience and the main benefits of using a store’s app is for time saving (88%) and cost saving (80%). These figures show that consumers want to purchase items quickly and for the best possible price, but the in-store experience isn’t allowing them to do so.
