Women for Women / Winners of the Women in Marketing (WIM) Awards

The UK’s most successful female marketers were honoured last night at the annual Women in Marketing (WIM) Awards.  Founded by volunteer, Ade Onilude, and organised by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) the WIM awards celebrate the achievements of female marketers from across the UK.

This year’s ceremony at the Haymarket Hotel, hosted by Daryl Fielding, director of brand marketing at Vodafone, saw high achievers from top UK brands including Proctor & Gamble, News UK, MediaCom and Diageo, scoop prizes including Best Female Leader and Outstanding Contribution to Marketing.


Movers & Groovers / M&C Saatchi appoints Formula One’s Antonia Harrison

M&C Saatchi has appointed Antonia Harrison to the role of International Development Director.

Harrison will be reporting to Moray MacLennan, CEO at M&C Saatchi Worldwide. She joins the agency from Bernie Eccelstone's Formula One Management, where she was Marketing and Sponsorship Director, tasked with developing new strategic partnerships for the sport.

Prior to working at Formula One Management, Harrison was Deputy Managing Director at Atelier Leo Burnett, and has also worked at leading agencies such as Euro RSCG, JWT London, and Publicis. In 2003 she founded Publicis Focus – a communications agency specialising in marketing to women – together with Miriam Jordan Keane. [more…]

Olympics / ‘Reduced to the status of beggars on the gilded streets of the Olympic movement’ : Ayo Akinto, Oddbins

As London welcomes the Olympic Games, a slew of brands who aren't official sponsors of the event have attempted to crash the party with guerrilla marketing.

However, the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) is working fiercely to protect the rights of official sponsors including P&G, McDonald's and Coca-Cola who have spent small fortunes to help foot the bill for the Games, estimated to have cost around $14.4bn.

Adidas, for example, is reported to have paid around $62m to become an official sponsor.
