In the attempt to tackle the rising threats of online ad fraud and brand safety, JICWEBS has undergone various changes including Richard Foan leaving ABC after 33 years to focus full-time on JICWEBS in a new role as the body moves from being part - to full-time, and hiring a former Microsoft executive.

Tomorrow (Wed 5th), JICWEBS is hosting a town hall on “Building trust in digital advertising” to debate these issues and share what’s being doing to address them. To register click here

"This issue of brand safety online is one of the very reasons the Joint Industry Committee for Web Standards (JICWEBS) was set up and we have a certification system to tackle this. It enables companies involved in serving online ads to be audited and show how their processes meet the industry agreed good practice principles specifically designed to reduce the risk of ads appearing against inappropriate content.

Currently 34 companies have received this seal for Brand Safety and we advise advertisers to check whether potential ad trading partners have this certification."

First companies certified against reducing online ad fraud

JICWEBS – the independent body that defines best practice and standards for online ad trading in the UK – has announced the next stage in the move to tackle online ad fraud.

Affectv and RadiumOne are the first companies to receive a certification seal that their processes reduce the risk of fraudulent ads being served, by applying the JICWEBS’ anti-fraud Good Practice Principles. They were awarded the seal following an independent audit by ABC.

Companies can receive certification for using fraud-reduction techniques

The UK’s Joint Industry Committee for Web Standards (JICWEBS) – the independent body that defines best practice and standards for online ad trading – has announced the next stage in the move to tackle online ad fraud.

JICWEBS has published Good Practice Principles against which companies, such as publishers, agencies and ad tech providers, can be audited to verify their processes reduce the risk of fraudulent ads being served. Those successfully demonstrating that their processes apply these principles will receive a certification seal. The first ones are expected to be issued in Q4 this year. [more…]

The UK’s Joint Industry Committee for Web Standards (JICWEBS) – the independent body that defines best practice and standards for online ad trading – has announced the next stage in the move to tackle online ad fraud.

JICWEBS has published a report describing the different types of potential online ad fraud. Titled “UK Traffic Taxonomy for Digital Display Advertising”, it follows June’s publication of an initial set of best practices to reduce the risk of exposure to fraud. [more…]

The UK’s Joint Industry Committee for Web Standards (JICWEBS) – the independent body that defines best practice and standards for online ad trading – is updating its recommended guidelines for products that aim to measure the viewability of online ads.

TheIAB UK” guidelines, initially produced in January 2014 to help advertisers and their agencies assess which companies to use to measure online ad viewability, is being replaced by an updated version, reflecting how the viewability issue has changed over the last 18 months. [more…]

British Gas, O2, Marks & Spencer, Cillit Bang, Asda and Center Parcs are among the brands advertising on "paedeo and incest websites", according to a report in The Sun, leading to questions about the efficacy of the media monitoring and targeting technology they are using.
