A new white paper titled ‘The State of SMS’ suggests SMEs and start-ups need to mobilise their marketing if they are to compete with more established brands in the marketplace.

The report, commissioned by Textlocal one of the UK’s leading SMS platforms, predicts a sharp rise in mobile usage as Britain boasts nearly 80m active mobile phones in circulation for the first time, with only 50% of SMEs surveyed currently using SMS as part of their marketing strategies.

Research : Brands must recognise SMS is still a popular channel amongst consumers says Textlocal

According to the Textlocal’s  new Mobile Customer Experience Report the British public are lukewarm when it comes to Facebook’s marketing overtures, with the report revealing only 5% of consumers (3.2 million) want brands to communicate with them via Facebook, compared to 27.9 million consumers that have opted-in to receive marketing communications from brands direct to their mobile device via SMS.

Almost two-thirds of businesses have, or are developing a Facebook strategy, which is comparable to the number of businesses with a mobile strategy; however, opt-in messaging is by far the most popular and efficient form of brand marketing with UK consumers. [more…]

Research : “75% of businesses didn’t know that 97.5% of all text messages are usually read within five seconds”

Textlocal.com, the business mobile messaging company has released a report which found that 86% of businesses were not aware of the high response rates of SMS and similarly, 75% of businesses didn’t know that 97.5% of all text messages are usually read within five seconds.

Interestingly though, the report also found that 67% of business owners actually preferred mobile messaging and mobile web compared to apps, and two-thirds stated that they found SMS more effective than email in their overall marketing campaigns.
