46 years ago the first ever email was sent by Ray Tomlinson. 7 years later in 1978, Gary Thuek dubbed as the ‘Father of Spam’ sent the first mass mailing promoting DEC machines to 400 users.

What are your opinions of chatbots?
2017 hasn’t been a very good year for Facebook and their progress with chatbots. The end of February saw reports on the bots hitting a 70% failure rate, as they were lacking understanding of the interaction, resulting in a human representative having to step in. This caused the social media giant to scale back its AI ambitions.
The end of July also saw Facebook experience adverse results and having to shut down their experiment. The social media giant’s AI researchers were attempting to teach the chatbots how to negotiate, however the bots identified as Bob and Alice deviated from the scripted conversation and continued communicating in their own manner meant to imitate human speech. As we move further into the digital age there are four main B2B sales roles identified by Forrester Research that will be impacted by technology.
There will be a dramatic decrease in Order Takers; these will be replaced with self-service portals.
Take McDonalds as an example, when walking into one of their restaurants customers are now presented with self-service kiosks, where they can order via touch screens that are fully loaded with the fast food chain’s menu.
The only interaction with a customer service representative is when the buyer collects their food.

10 years ago customer service was a very different concept.
Apple introduced the iPhone on 29th June 2007; now in 2017 it is not uncommon that businesses aspire to be as customer-centric as the technology giant.
Customers still expected great service however they weren’t in as much of a hurry as they are today, with demand for instant service growing. “57% of online customers say they are very likely to abandon their purchase if they can't quickly find the answer to their question.”[1]

When gurus are incorrect and have a massive audience soaking up their information, surely misleading hundreds and thousands of professionals can be damaging to their reputation and even their career if they follow blindly.
Recently a well-known marketing influencer wrote an article on live chat, one of their main examples within the content actually wasn’t live chat but another type of messaging system! After putting the research and effort into writing the blog, it’s understandable why my comment pointing out the misconception was removed.
Therefore this has spurred me to write about some of the different types of messaging systems available.
