On April 21, Google will release a new mobile ranking algorithm that will have more impact on search results than any changes made by Google in the last two years.

As Google works to make the web friendlier to mobile devices, SEO will capture mobile and desktop traffic separately from one another. This means that great desktop SEO and a separate mobile-friendly presence will not be enough anymore. If your website provides a poor mobile user experience, it will begin to rank poorly for searches made on mobile devices like smartphones and tablets.

eMarketer: Mobile Ad Spending to Top $100 Billion Worldwide in 2016

The worldwide mobile advertising market will hit two significant milestones in 2016, according to new figures from eMarketer, surpassing $100 billion and accounting for more than 50% of all digital ads for the first time.

The $101.37 billion to be spent on ads served to mobile phones and tablets worldwide next year represents a more than 400% increase from 2013. Between 2016 and 2019, the last year in our forecast, mobile ads will nearly double again, totaling $195.55 billion. That figure will account for 70.1% of all digital advertising as well as more than one-quarter of total media ad spending worldwide.

Primesight’s digital 6 sheets will host the ‘BackInYourBox’ campaign in the top ten most popular cinemas in the UK alongside static six sheet panels located in 304 cinemas nationwide. The digital creative features a touch screen game based on the well known arcade hit ‘Whac-A-Mole’, allowing players to tap the colourful characters on screen emerging from the boxes with the aim of achieving a high score.

  • Retail mobile commerce sales expected to top £6.61 billion alone

LONDON (20 June, 2013) -- Shopping on mobile devices is helping drive retail ecommerce sales in the UK to new heights and a larger percentage of retail sales overall, according to new figures from eMarketer. The UK has always registered relatively high online shopping and buying penetration rates. Based on eMarketer's first-ever forecast for UK retail sales across channels, digital sales in the country, including online and mobile, as a percentage of total retail sales, is among the highest in the world. eMarketer estimates that digital sales (excluding travel) will represent 11.5% of UK total retail sales this year, compared with 10.2% in 2012.

“A great experiment for Facebook – lower risk than developing a phone or an operating system of its own” / Jan Dawson,Ovum

Facebook today announced a home screen or "launcher" application for Android which will take over the user's phone home screen on an Android device and provide a Facebook-centric experience and way of interacting with the device.

Jan Dawson, chief telecoms analyst at Ovum, has the following initial reaction:

“Any broadening of Facebook's appeal on mobile devices would have to be broad-based, and the Android launcher approach allows it to target a huge installed base of hundreds of millions of Android users, which will be a large chunk of Facebook's total user base of more than a billion people.
