Over-60s the biggest holiday spenders

  • The cost of a holiday is the least influential factor in the planning stages for travellers aged between 60 and 69, who spend an average of £794 on travel and accommodation.
  • Those of retirement age also take the longest breaks, lasting 11.15 days on average, and are the generation most likely to take multiple main holidays in a year.
  • The study of 5,000 British holidaymakers by the price comparison website TravelSupermarket, found that those within the 50- 59 age range were more experimental with destinations than young adults or those with young families, with the results showing they considered a wide range of holiday targets.
