Latest report from Ofcom, using SamKnows volunteer data, shows average cable broadband speed overtakes fibre

SamKnows, the global leader in broadband measurement, has released its latest report for Ofcom assessing the current state of the UK broadband market. The full summary and report (including graphics) is available on the Ofcom website here.

Using its community data, SamKnows’ report found:

  • The average UK residential broadband speed reached 18.4Mbits/s
  • 28% of homes now have a headline speed of 30Mbits/s
  • The average broadband speed delivered by cable services actually overtook that of fibre
  • The gap between rural and urban speeds has narrowed slightly
  • Upload speeds were still quite slow, an average of 2.4MBits/s
