High street retailers are facing an Easter Bank Holiday wash-out this weekend after a shock slump in the number of shoppers.

Figures from shopper traffic monitor Springboard, @Springboard_ seen exclusively by The Mail on Sunday, revealed that by Saturday lunchtime the number of shoppers had plunged versus the same holiday period last year.

The slump in shopper numbers came as a blow to the retail sector which had been expecting consumers to go on a shopping spree this weekend.
