In an article for the Times Mr Carswell noted his admiration for his party leader but also suggested that “even leaders need to take a break. Nigel needs to take a break now.” 

This follows recent comments by UKIP’s campaign chief Patrick O’Flynn, describing Mr Farage as “snarling” and “aggressive,” prompting the party leader to call for other critics to make themselves known.

According to the Telegraph, Mr O’Flynn’s remarks may now result in him being sacked as Ukip’s economic spokesman as Mr Farage attempts to restore discipline.
