They made the decision to launch a new platform known as Watch.

What Is Facebook Watch?

Facebook has described “Watch” as the latest platform dedicated to shows on Facebook. The shows feature “episodes”, which include recorded and live, that follow storylines or themes. Watch includes original programming that is backed by Facebook along with other videos from different creators. All types of publishers and creators are able to use Watch, where Facebook states “to find an audience, build a community of passionate fans, and earn money for their work”.

Where To Find Facebook Watch

Facebook Watch can be found in a “tab”, where it will automatically auto-customize to any of your interests. You are able to access Watch through the Facebook app on your laptop, desktop, mobile and through its TV apps.

The older video tab that was once featured within the main app, that up until recently used to play random videos that came from pages and publishers that you are already following has been removed.

The latest Watch tab is a lot more focused and defined. There are services where you can buy Facebook Watch page access for business. They could be worth it if you want to get in front of a lot of eyes and a create large audience .

How Does Facebook Watch Work?

The Watch tab, which can be found opposite the Marketplace tab on Facebook for iPhones, splits the videos into sections: Watchlist and Discover. The Discover tab recommend videos that you can watch, and Watchlist stores the videos you have “followed” so you can watch them later. There are also videos that are defined into different categories such as “What’s making people laugh”, “Most talked about”, and “What friends are watching”.

There is also a category for the videos that exceed 10 minutes.

Can You Make Your Own Videos For Watch?

At this stage you along with publishers, will have to first be “invited” to Watch. In the next few months, Facebook is expecting to allow anyone to publish to Watch, similar to the way you are able to with YouTube. Several reports have indicated that Facebook has plans to no longer fund the original shows up-front but will rather earn by taking 45% of revenues generated from ads. Yes, you can expect to be seeing the mid-roll ads in the videos you are watching on Watch.
