How Many Followers to Go LIVE on TikTok UK? 2026 Rules Explained

How many followers do you need to go LIVE on TikTok in the UK? For most creators, 1,000 followers is the usual requirement, and you must be at least 18 years old. However, TikTok says follower requirements can vary by region, and some accounts may qualify through different routes.

There is also an important exception for businesses and TikTok Shop creators. TikTok’s UK guidance describes how approved sellers can livestream with no followers, while certain TikTok Shop creators can qualify for shopping permissions with 500.

Those rules are not interchangeable. Someone with 500 followers may qualify to promote products but still lack permission to host an ordinary livestream.

We checked TikTok’s published UK policies, including its 2026 creator requirements, to explain which rules apply and what to do if the LIVE button is missing.

How Many Followers Do You Need to Go LIVE on TikTok in the UK?

The usual target for a standard UK TikTok account is 1,000 followers. TikTok’s official UK seller training confirms that figure for regular accounts. However, its general LIVE guidance also warns that follower requirements can differ between regions.

Reaching 1,000 followers therefore does not guarantee that LIVE will immediately become available. TikTok may still require age verification or other eligibility checks.

The rules also depend on what you intend to do.

The important distinction is between hosting a normal LIVE and receiving TikTok Shop e-commerce permissions.

TikTok’s March 2026 UK policy provides the 500-follower figure for creators promoting products. It does not establish a general 500-follower threshold for every type of LIVE broadcast.

What Are the TikTok LIVE Requirements in the UK?

TikTok requires creators to be at least 18 years old before they can host a LIVE. They must also meet the follower requirement applied to their account and comply with TikTok’s Community Guidelines.

The main requirements are:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Meet TikTok’s applicable follower threshold.
  • Have access to LIVE on your account.
  • Have no relevant restrictions preventing broadcasting.
  • Complete age verification if TikTok requests it.

TikTok’s requirements are not the same for every feature. For example, being able to broadcast does not automatically qualify someone to receive LIVE Gifts or use every monetisation tool.

Can you go LIVE on TikTok at 16?

No. The minimum age for hosting TikTok LIVE is 18.

TikTok increased the age requirement from 16 to 18 in November 2022. Some older articles and videos still refer to the previous rule.

Users under 18 cannot bypass the age restriction by gaining more followers.

Can You Go LIVE on TikTok With 500 Followers in the UK?

Some UK TikTok accounts can access shopping-related LIVE features with 500 followers, but this is not a general rule for ordinary creators.

TikTok’s official UK Shop creator website currently advertises a minimum of 500 followers. Its policy published on 9 March 2026 sets out additional eligibility requirements.

Creators seeking TikTok Shop e-commerce permissions must generally:

  1. Have at least 500 genuine followers.
  2. Be aged 18 or older.
  3. Have posted a TikTok video within the previous 28 days.
  4. Be located in the country where their account is registered.
  5. Meet TikTok’s account and policy requirements.

These permissions allow approved creators to promote products through videos, their profiles and livestreams.

However, permission to promote products is not the same as a guarantee that every account with 500 followers can begin broadcasting immediately.

Why do some TikTok websites still say 1,000 followers?

Our review found an inconsistency in TikTok’s own educational material.

TikTok Shop’s Getting Started Checklist, published in May 2026, still refers to 1,000 followers for creator access. Its March 2026 e-commerce policy and current UK creator registration page, however, specify 500.

The newer eligibility policy is the more relevant reference for the 500-follower rule, but creators should check the requirements shown during their application.

This discrepancy helps explain why different websites give conflicting answers.

Can You Go LIVE on TikTok Without 1,000 Followers?

Yes, there are legitimate exceptions. The clearest documented route is TikTok Shop LIVE selling for approved businesses. TikTok has also tested different access requirements, although an individual creator cannot assume early access will be offered.

Can TikTok Shop sellers go LIVE with zero followers?

TikTok’s UK Seller Academy describes a route for approved TikTok Shop sellers to go LIVE with zero followers.

Its June 2024 LIVE training states that TikTok Shop sellers can broadcast without reaching the regular account’s 1,000-follower target.

For example, a small British clothing retailer could establish a TikTok Shop, link an approved account and use LIVE selling to demonstrate products.

However, opening a normal TikTok Business Account is not enough. Businesses must complete the relevant seller approval and account-linking requirements.

TikTok has also updated its UK rules since that training was published. Therefore, zero-follower access should be treated as an approved seller route, not a guarantee for every new account.

What changed for UK TikTok Shop businesses in July 2026?

TikTok introduced new official-account requirements for corporate sellers on 1 July 2026.

Corporate businesses linking a new official account, or reconnecting one after unlinking, must use an Organisation Account.

Existing linked personal accounts may remain unaffected until they are disconnected. The change does not apply to individual sellers in the same way.

This matters because Organisation Accounts have different permissions from personal creator accounts, including restrictions on certain creator rewards and gifting features.

Businesses should check their current Seller Centre settings before planning a livestream.

How to Check if You Can Go LIVE on TikTok

The most reliable way to find out whether you can go LIVE is to check your own TikTok account. The app shows whether the feature is available, regardless of what a general eligibility guide says.

Follow these steps:

  1. Open the TikTok app on your phone.
  2. Tap the + button at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Swipe through the recording options.
  4. Look for LIVE.
  5. If LIVE appears, select it to see the setup screen.

If your account has access, you should be able to prepare a broadcast and select Go LIVE when ready.

If TikTok shows a ‘Get access to go LIVE’ option, follow the instructions displayed.

If LIVE is missing, check your account status and notifications before assuming the problem is your follower count.

Why Can’t I Go LIVE on TikTok Even With 1,000 Followers?

Having 1,000 followers does not automatically guarantee TikTok LIVE access. Your account may need further verification, have an active restriction or fail another eligibility requirement.
