On Today Sebastian James, chief executive of Dixons gives a slightly baffling justification for his company’s merger with Carphone Warehouse.
Dixons sells internet devices and Carphone Warehouse connects them, he says.
The telephone is the remote control of our lives, he adds. People want to operate devices like home audio and heating when they are not at home, with their phones. In the next sentence he says there will not be store closures because we do “very different things”.
This will create a new retailer for the new digital age, building a leader in the connected world across Europe.
