If you’re a small business owner with an office space you’re not exactly proud of, you’re going to worry what that space says about you. Because no matter the type of business you’re running, reputation is everything!
And while most of that is going to be in your marketing and the product you sell, the third crucial element is the way you work behind the scenes. Inviting someone into a space you’re not sure about is going to set you on edge, and no one does their best work when they’re uncomfortable!
So what is it that’s worrying you most about your workspace, and what can we do to fix it?

They Don’t Really Have One!
There’s a lot of business owners out there who don’t actually have a proper office. They’re using the back of their kitchen, they’re tucking their laptop into the side of the sofa at the end of the day, or they simply work from a desk in their bedroom.
When you’ve got a business, but little in the way of a budget, you have to make do with what you already have.
And when the time comes that a client actually wants to meet, and they ask if they can come to your workplace, it’s going to send you into a panic.
But you can always redirect them to a nearby cafe! Or simply set out a meeting space somewhere else in your home. If you’ve got a table and chairs, that’ll work just fine!
It’s Not Really Ergonomic or Comfortable
When a workspace isn’t comfortable, you’re going to be up and down, fidgeting back and forth, and never really putting 100% into the task in front of you.
And while you may be concerned that feeling too comfortable is going to slow you down and make you procrastinate, scientific findings would have to disagree with you.
So it’s clear there’s a comfort issue here, but not fixing the things that make you uncomfortable won’t help!
You need to have a total office fit out here, and make the space more ergonomic and functioning for your own benefit! And if you ever want to bring other people on board, they’re going to want to see these features in the workspace as well.
It Doesn’t Look Professional Enough
Let’s face it, this is the main drive behind the workspace worries you have. You’re worried that you won’t be seen as professional, and you’re not going to be taken seriously because of it.
There’s a sizable element of imposter syndrome here, and that’s not going to be fixed in the space of this one article! But it is something to be aware of.
You’re not an imposter, you have a workspace, and you’re being as professional as you possibly can be. When the feeling crops up, these are the things to keep in mind.
If you’re a small business owner with workspace worries, we get you! Understand the worry, then apply a fix!
